"History of Alternative Spaces"
Kazuko Koike × Masami Shiraishi
When Japanese contemporary culture including art and design began to be recognized internationally in the 1980s, artists tried to create a distance from systems, and tried to work freely, seeking for own ways of expression with a sense of liberation. In this lecture, with "alternative" as the keyword, we will discuss the Tokyo art scene from the 1980's to the 1990's thinking about the late "Sagacho Exhibit Space" and the innovative "Touko Museum of Contemporary Art".
*This lecture is also a part of the "Tokyo Artpoint Project" intern program.
