Insideout / Tokyo Project

Insideout / Tokyo Project aims to reverse the relationship between“Tokyo = urban”and“provinces = rural”through art projects. By doing so, the project intends to create new activities and community networks. It is said that the problem with Tokyo is the difficulty to have a sense of community and connection to others. In fact, many people feel lonely in Tokyo. This project uses“identity based on birthplace”as a key to connecting people and to create a sense of belonging to a community between people who are otherwise in urban solitude. The project considers“sense of community”as a driving force for creating new type of citizenship in local society and provides a range of programs for people living in Tokyo to discover the local society they belong to in this new context.
