Robert Lepage (Screenplay and director)
Robert Lepage was born in Quebec, Canada, in 1957. As a teenager, he was inspired by the performances of the legendary rock band Genesis and decided to become a stage director. Lepage has dominated the theatre world as a pioneer who has adapted screen images to stage performance. While he actively uses cutting-edge technology, he also excels at directing stage performance that uses his deep understanding of Eastern culture, and especially Japanese traditional performing arts.
By merging his exquisite artistic taste and sense of entertainment, Lepage has been active in genres other than theatre, and so he is one to look out for in art scenes all over the world. Lepage won the Europe Theatre Prize in 2007. Past recipients of the prize include Peter Brook and Pina Bausch.
