Synopsis
Experience the Japanese tea ceremony’s true spirit of hospitality
Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony will be held in two locations in Tokyo to have people share the traditional Japanese tea culture and the Edo and Tokyo cultures that have nurtured the tea culture. The ceremonies are designed with various ideas to provide basic tea ceremony etiquettes to citizens who are not regularly acquainted with the tea ceremony as well as tourists visiting Tokyo area, so that everyone may casually enjoy the Japanese traditional culture of “cha-no-yu.” Please enjoy an autumn day in Tokyo experiencing the classic Japanese culture.

Cha-seki (indoor tea ceremony)
This is a genuine tea ceremony held in the quaint spaces of Takahashi Korekiyo-tei and Nishikawa-ke in Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum as well as Matsu-no-ochaya and Nakajima-no-ochaya in Hama Rikyu Gardens.

Hama Rikyu Gardens, Matsu-no-ochaya: 1,000 yen.

You can enjoy unique nodate offered in various styles.

・Tickets will be sold at the Nodate ticket counter on the day.
・Tickets are limited so please reserve your tickets as early as possible.
Tea Ceremony for beginners
This is a sado class for children and adults who have yet to experience a Japanese tea ceremony. You can experience the spirit of hospitality through working in pairs and making tea for your partner.

・Tickets will be sold at the main ticket counter on the day.
・Tickets are limited so please reserve your tickets as early as possible.
Nodate (outdoor tea ceremony) in English: Hama Rikyu Gardens Only
This is nodate for foreign visitors who wish to enjoy a tea ceremony with explanations in English.

・Tickets will be sold at the Nodate ticket counter on the day.
・Tickets are limited so please reserve your tickets as early as possible.
Nodate by high school students: Hama Rikyu Gardens Only
This is nodate led and run by high school students who wish to preserve the future of the tea ceremony culture. Here, you can enjoy a tea ceremony in a light-heart manner.

Edo Komichi: Hama Rikyu Gardens Only
Events and shops at Edo Komichi are planned to be as follows:

・Wearing Japanese Kimono in a brief manner
・Making Japanese Tea in a brief manner
・Japanese traditional goods shop
・Japanese snack shop
・Japanese bento shop

If you wish to participate in any of the cha-seki above, please send a return postcard to the secretariat below, providing the following information: a) your preferred venue (Choose one out of (1) Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum, (2) Matsu-no-ochaya in Hama Rikyu Gardens and (3) Nakajima-no-ochaya in Hama Rikyu Gardens), b) your preferred date, c) your preferred time (either the morning or the afternoon), d) the number of persons (up to two), e) your name (with furigana), f) your address including the post code, and g) your phone number.
・Please write your name and address including the post code on the reply card. Only one application may be made per person.
・If places are oversubscribed, a lottery will be held. *Cha-seki at Matsu-no-ochaya can be attended only by those who have completed elementary school.
