Symposium “Critics and Performers”
Synopsis
“Critics in Residence” invites high-profile critics and journalists from overseas to report on a variety of musical performances held in Tokyo. Their impressions and forthright critiques of current musical trends in Tokyo will be published overseas through mass media.
This rare symposium features high-profile critics and journalists from Japan and abroad, who will discuss and exchange opinions about critiques of musical performances as well as differences in music journalism in Japan and Europe. A variety of issues related to contemporary music journalism will also be discussed.

Critics from Overseas
Marie-Aude Roux (Journalist, Le Monde)
Marie-Aude Roux has been writing music reviews for Le Monde, a leading French daily newspaper, since 1998. She also contributes articles to specialty journals, such as “Opera Magazine” and “Diapason” and to general magazines, such as “Point de Vue,” “Gala” and “Canopee.” In addition, she appears on “Tout arrive (Everything happens to you),” a culture program broadcast by Radio France, and “Toute la musique qu’ils aiment (All the music he loves),” a TV program hosted by Allan Dehors. Ms. Roux also has a profound knowledge of literature and serves as one of the judges for the Prix Pelleas (Pelleas Award: started by Cafe Les Deux Magots in 1997, and given every year for a music-related novel).

Carla Moreni is a music critic for Italy’s leading economic newspaper, Il Sole 24 Ore. Her graduation thesis from the University of Milan was published as the first issue in a series of publications by La Scala in 1986. Ms. Moreni was a music critic for Italy’s daily newspaper, Giorno, for 7 years, and also for a Christian newspaper called Avvenire. She works as a correspondent for an Italian radio station, Radio 3, and works once a week for a Swiss radio station. She is from Milan and received a diploma in flute from Music Conservatoire "Giuseppe Verdi", Milan. She teaches reading classes in poetry and drama at Trento Music Conservatory.
