Japanese Musical Instruments × the Classics × Animation Music
Pro Musica Nipponia played famous pieces with Japanese musical instruments, conducted by Mr. Takuo Tamura. Part I started with familiar Japanese traditional pieces including “Haru no Umi (Spring Ocean)” and “Nasu no Yoichi.” As they were played, each musical instrument was introduced. The concert then turned to a cheerful performance of a Ghibli animation medley. The audience, both adults and children, became lively and clapped hands when the theme tune of “Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea” was played. “Bolero,” “The Girl with the Flaxen Hair” and others were performed in Part II to give the audience a taste of Western music played by a Japanese instrument ensemble. The audience seemed to enjoy the fresh combination of the classics and traditional Japanese instruments. This composition allowed the audience to enjoy Japanese musical instruments to the full.

J-POP × JAZZ × DANCE
The event opened with a performance by a dance team from the Street Dance Union, followed by another cool performance by the J.J.A. Orchestra & Friends which was especially formed for this event. This was the first performance by singer-songwriter Jun Shibata at an outdoor live event. Her beautiful voice carried through the open space. In the performance of Terumasa Hino presents DJB plus+, Terumasa Hino himself appeared as a surprise guest. The excitement at the venue reached a climax when the final performers Home Made Kazoku came on stage wearing tuxedos, which is an unusual sartorial style for them. With the twilight sky in the background they performed a session with Norihito Sumitomo and the Special Band. At the end of the show, Mr. Terumasa Hino came on stage for an encore, which also created great excitement.
All in all, the event was the perfect day for the audience to experience the joy of Jazz.

Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, Ueno Park
The Classics × J-POP
It was as if fresh air filled the hall when “Amazing Grace” was sung, and the audience enjoyed a friendly atmosphere when popular J-POP songs including “Michishirube” and “Nada Soso” were performed. The voice of Tomotaka Okamoto, a sopranist (a male soprano) who has a wide repertoire, inspired the audience in many ways. Okamoto’s performance was followed by a performance by the TOKYO FM Boys Choir who sang “Sekai ni Hitotsu Dake no Hana (One of a Kind Flower).” The TOKYO FM Boys Choir is a rare type of choir fully consisted of elementary school boys. The chorus club of the Tokyo Metropolitan Fuchu Nishi High School made a special appearance and sang “Tsubasa wo Kudasai (Wings to Fly).” Finally, the sopranist and the two chorus groups captivated the audience as the voices of different ages created harmony.
During the day, Heaven Artists, mainly musicians, gathered in Ueno Park and colorful performances were unfolded. With the two events combined, the day in Ueno Park was all about music.

Music also brought dreams and inspiration to the audience at the LIQUIDROOM in Ebisu and Koseinenkin Kaikan in Shinjuku under the themes of “Beauty × J-POP” and “J-pop music which three generations can enjoy,” respectively.
Comments from the Audience
・I often listen to Western music and symphonies, but I have not previously had the chance to listen to a performance of this kind played on Japanese instruments. The sound felt pleasant, perhaps because the tones of Japanese instruments feel right for Japanese people. I would like to listen to more of this type of music when I have the chance. (Rune Kodaira)
・Although this was my first experience of a traditional Japanese music performance, I was able to comfortably enjoy it with my child who is an elementary school student because it included many familiar tunes. It was very nice of the performers to give an explanation of the Japanese instruments that were unfamiliar to us, rather than simply playing tunes.(Rune Kodaira)
・It was a great event where girls could be themselves, feel lively and fully enjoy themselves. (LIQUIDROOM)
・It was a happy event for girls because it contained hair styling, makeup and nail art as well as live performances. (LIQUIDROOM)
・The Tokyo Music Circle left a strong impression on people thanks to how it was organized: connecting and combining various arts and presenting them in various parts of Tokyo, as its name “circle” indicates.(Tokyo Bunka Kaikan)
・The event delivered what it promised! It really was an event that grandparents, parents and children could enjoy. The audience was able to participate in the event and we had a great time. The performance also made me realize once again that music is great. Music is a magical art which transcends generations and national borders and brings out the good in people. Thank you for the great event. (Koseinenkin Kaikan)
