Synopsis
Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space Artistic Director: Hideki Noda
Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space will present performing arts selected by Hideki Noda, a leading figure in Japanese theatre, who became the first artistic director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space in summer, 2009.

Up-and-coming Stage Director Creation Project
Stage performances directed by young stage directors recommended by Artistic Director Hideki Noda.
Kuro Tanino, who leads Niwa Gekidan Penino, will direct his play “Chekhov” (Tentative title) celebrating the 150th anniversary of Anton Chekhov’s birth. Many of the most original theatrical actors in Japan such as Eisuke Sasai and Toru Tezuka will perform in this play. This ambitious work is collaboration between a young up-and-coming director and a unique group of actors that represents a new wave of artistic culture.

Works Invited from Abroad: Robert Lepage
“The Blue Dragon”, directed by the internationally renowned Canadian director, Robert Lepage. This unique performance was created as a sequel to “The Dragon's Trilogy (1985),” a breakthrough work of dramatic scale that earned Lepage international fame. We are delighted to be able to guarantee the audience the most sophisticated level of visual art such as only the likes of Lepage can create.

Works Invited from Abroad: A Stage Collaboration between Japan and Thailand
B-Floor from Thailand, an up-and-coming physical theatre group with a new approach, and faifai from Japan will collaborate in a workshop and perform their new production. The work of these two fresh companies representing Asia will be an international project attracting both domestic and international attention at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space.

Geigeki eyes
“Geigeki eyes” is Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space’s project to introduce rising talent. Last year, five up-and-coming groups performed new plays or past works. This year, the number of participating groups will increase to eight for the preceding and later terms. A succession of vigorous and fresh talent will appear on stage.
