This symposium provides you with an opportunity to give thought to new culture in Tokyo, through arts and performances.
Synopsis
Under the theme of “TOKYO C-WAVE - Culture wave, make it or play it?” you will think about the creation and promotion of distinctive Tokyo culture. You will also enjoy media arts and performances provided in this tuned-in symposium.

Outline
Familiarize yourself with the creation of culture through the keynote speech and panel discussion as well as taking in the art gallery and performances. Just as the Edo culture was derived from Edo’s inhabitants, so too Tokyo’s new culture should be derived from the people of Tokyo. We hope many of you will join us in this symposium.

Born in Tokyo in 1962. He established the Theater Company “Seinendan” when he was a student at the International Christian University. Since graduating, he has been active in the field of theater, both at home and abroad, leading “Seinendan” based in the Komaba Agora Theater (of which he is the manager.) He has won many awards, including the Kishida Kunio Drama Award with “Tokyo Note” in 1995.

He has planned and produced many works including the CD-ROM Book “Multimedia Kabuki,” and the Photo Book “Hyakunen-no-guko (One hundred years of idiocy.)” Chief editor of “Senken Nikki.” Guest professor at Kyoto University of Art and Design.

Born in Tokyo in 1956. After graduated from Faculty of Business and Commerce, Keio University, he joined Tokyo News Service, Ltd. in 1979, where he had worked as editor for “Weekly TV Guide.” He became an independent columnist in 1984. While he has written many columns for various media including magazines and newspapers, he has actively appeared on TV as a commentator. In 2005, he qualified as a Certified and Accredited Meteorologists of Japan (CAMJ) to expand his activities. He wrote many books including “Tokyo 23-ku Monogatari,” “Dai-Tokyo Bus Annai,” and “Tokyo Kentei.”

Since 1986, he had been active as “Pearl Bros” and drawn public attention as a strange “Rocker Dentist/Songwriter.” He is working solo both in Japan and France and released “CLOCLO Made In Japan” in spring of 2008. He is a TV host, producer for various fields, a writer (having many newspaper serials) and also a songwriter who made the lyric of “Hikari-no-Genchan” for NHK’s Minna-no-Uta.

Ms. Sarah Marie Cummings (Representative Director of Masuichi-Ichimura Sake Brewery)
Born in Pennsylvania, U.S., in 1968. Stayed in Japan as an exchange student for two years, form 1991. Joined Obusedo Masuichi-Ichimura Sake Brewery in 1994. She was the first westerner to qualify as a certified sake sommelier in 1996. From the next year, she began the restructuring of Masuichi. In 1998, she set up and ran “the 3rd International Hokusai Conference.” Since 2001, she has started cultural salons including “Obusession (means session held in Obuse)” and other local revitalization activities including “Obuse mini marathon” held on every Marine Day.

After that, she participated in two Olympics Games, in 1984 and 1988, and stayed in the U.S. to undergo swimming training for seven years from 1985. After her retirement, she established the sport counseling office “GENKI NA ATELIER” and has served as a sport consultant. She is actively conducting promotions to ensure that more and more people can enjoy the fun of sport by holding swimming classes and seminars and has appeared on various media such as newspapers, magazines, TV and radio with her main theme “Interaction between Humans and Water.”
