Outline
With the aim of promoting international mutual understanding through music, October 1st has been designated International Music Day. Centered around this date, under the auspices of the Music Marathon Festival, a variety of live concerts will be held at various locations in Tokyo.
Participating performers range from students and amateur musicians through to professional musicians. As “musical runners”, assembled musicians will showcase the event.
Some performances require no admission fee, so be sure to attend!

Tokyo Music Marathon Festival 2008
Under the theme interaction, enjoyment and renewed acquaintances through music that transcends generations and genres, the Tokyo Music Marathon Festival will be held at various locations in Tokyo. Held in celebration of International Music Day (October 1), we will cover a wide range of music.
Tokyo Music Marathon Festival in Tokyo International Forum
In this concert, we will trace the musical history of Tokyo through famous songs.
Budding talented artists will perform in a special band session on this day, based entirely on the theme of the Tokyo Music Marathon: “Interaction, Enjoyment and Renewed Acquaintances through Music.”

Held at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan and many other places in the Ueno Park area, we will cover a wide range of music by holding genre-crossing events.

Featuring a popular young classical guitarist, Dai Kimura, we will hold a casual classical music concert, which people of all ages can enjoy.

We will set up a stage in front of the entrance of the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, and small bands of strings and brass, etc. will play classical and jazz music in an atmospheric concert.

An orchestra made up of only women, “Lime Ladies Orchestra”, and a violinist, Ai Okumura, familiar to TV viewers, will play together in an easy listening, casual classical music performance.

A “Taiko” Sukeroku style drumming performance will take place in the Edo-Tokyo Plaza, located on the 3rd floor of the museum.
With the adjoining Ry?goku Kokugikan providing the background setting, the splendor of Japanese traditional culture and music will be experienced through soul-stirring Taiko music.
