Synopsis

Professional artists in dance or theater will provide workshops at schools and in public auditoriums. Together, elementary school and junior high school students will create an original stage play in which children will play the leading characters.
Schedule
June, 2011 – March, 2012

Venues
Concert halls and cultural facilities: Maronie Hall (Higashikurume Municipal Lifelong Learning Center), Sengawa Theater, Kichijoji Theatre, Parthenon Tama, Suitengu Pit
Elementary schools in Tokyo, islands and other areas in Tokyo

Organizers
Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Tokyo Culture Creation Project (Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture), and NPO Children Meet Artists

Outline

Through the creation of stage play, children working in teams will be encouraged to exercise their initiative and creativity as well as communication skills. By working closely with professional artists away from normal class activities, children will be able to learn about the characters and way of life of those artists, and this could lead to a career education for them. Our goal is to help incorporate these skills into school education, and help children utilize them at school plays and show-and-tells, and ultimately improve their presentation skills. For public auditoriums, with support from local residents, we invite local children to create stage plays together to strive for regional revitalization.
