Synopsis

TACT/FESTIVAL TOKYO
This is a theater arts festival for children. Topflight overseas theater companies are invited to give stage performances and participatory workshops.

Program

“Les moutons”
CORPUS [Canada]

“Les moutons,” which was performed in 2010, is coming back! Humans impersonating sheep will be chased by a shepherd, play with other actors portraying sheep and involve the audience in the performances. The high quality program was very popular with audiences last fiscal year creating a sensation and hopes for a repeat performance. This year, the “sheep” will be grazed on the playground at Suitengu Pit!

Schedule: Starting at 15:15 on Wednesday, August 3; starting at 14:15 on Thursday, August 4, 2011
Show time: Approximately 30 minutes
Venue: Playground at Suitengu Pit (no postponement for rain)
Admission fee: Free, no prior application required
Target audience: No age restrictions

[Workshop by CORPUS]
“The Arts of being Sheep”

Schedule: Starting at 11:30 and 13:00 on August 2 (Tue)
Participation fee: 500 yen
Target audience: Age 6 and older (This workshop is also open to adults.)
Capacity: 20 for each workshop (Prior applications are required. Participants will be chosen in order of receipt.)
“A Flock of Flyers”
CORPUS [Canada]

This is a flagship performance of CORPUS, along with “Les moutons.”
Due to severe budget cutbacks the 217th Canadian Flying Squadron has been left without any planes! Determined to fly at any cost, the 5 flyers continue their regimented training in an imaginary terrestrial airfield. Being led by Captain Pop, the Flyers parade their hilarious maneuvers to audiences around the world as well as in Canada. At Suitengu Pit, the audience will be invited to join the training.

Gamelan & wayang “Bimo bothok: Bimo’s expedition to subjugate fiends”
HANA★JOSS [Indonesia]
The piece is composed of traditional Indonesian music called “gamelan” and a shadow puppet play called “wayang kulit” which was developed mainly in Java, Indonesia. “Wayang” can be enjoyed from the front of the screen as well as behind the screen.

A space will be set up where people can freely use street performers’ apparatus including balls and clubs.
Come and join us in having a go at top-notch street performers’ techniques with their instruction!

Schedule: 13:00-19:00 on Wednesday, August 3; 12:00-18:00 on Thursday, August 4, 2011
Venue: Playground at Suitengu Pit (The program will be held as planned in the case of drizzle and held indoors if it rains.)
